Members of Blackmoor Golf Club have presented a cheque for £23,385K to The Rosemary Foundation following a bumper fundraising year at the prestigious Hampshire golf club.
The Foundation holds a very special place in the hearts and minds of members of Blackmoor for the wonderful palliative care services they provide to people and their families suffering from cancer and other life-limiting diseases. In 2023 Henry Carter a member of Blackmoor Golf Club sadly passed away at a relatively young age and in respect and memory of Henry the 2024 Officers of the Club fittingly chose The Rosemary Foundation as their collective Club Charity.
The sum of £23,385 was presented to Wendy Smith from The Rosemary Foundation at the annual Captain's Drive-in ceremony held to mark the outgoing of the current Captains and incoming of the new Club Officers. The cheque was presented on Saturday 12th October by the Immediate Past Captains, Mark Cornwell (Club Captain), Sarah Mulhall (Ladies' Captain) and Nigel Jennings (Seniors' Captain).
Mark Cornwell commented, “Henry was a wonderful young man, well-liked and a tremendous golfer. Not only has it been a privilege to be the 2024 Club Captain but an honour to remember him throughout the year at all our fundraising events. I have been truly humbled by the members' support of our charity and blown away by the final total. We know it will be put to exceptionally good use.â€
Speaking about the charity donation Sarah Mulhall said, “We supported the Rosemary Foundation in memory of our dear departed Henry Carter and felt it was important to raise awareness of this wonderful local charity. The mother of one of our lady members Susie Cave
was a founder of the foundation, another lady member Elspeth Dixon has worked for them in her capacity as a nurse. A previous Lady Captain, Mo Hawkins nominated the Rosemary Foundation in her captaincy year and this wonderful Charity is currently assisting two of our Lady members who we all hold dearly in our thoughts and prayers.â€
During their tenure the 2024 Club Captain's organised plenty of fun activities to encourage donations from members including captain's raffles, coffee mornings, cake baking and enjoyable golf days.
The Rosemary Foundation was founded in 1997 and since then has supported more than 3,800 patients and their respective loved ones. The Rosemary Foundation is fully funded from grants, donations and legacies and the service is at no charge to the patient or their family.
Wendy Smith, on behalf of The Rosemary Foundation expressed her sincere thanks to Mark Cornwell, Sarah Mulhall and Nigel Jennings as well as all the generous members of Blackmoor Golf Club for their incredible support over the past 12 months and said it had been an absolute pleasure working with them and attending events throughout the year. Wendy said that this donation will be used to continue to keep the nurses on the road, caring for patients in their own homes and supporting the bereaved families through our bereavement counselling service.
Following the AGM at Blackmoor Golf Club the previous evening, Blackmoor welcomed the newly elected Club Officers at the annual Captain's Drive-in ceremony.
2025 Club Captain Kevin Hawkins drove off the first tee with a 157-yard centre right drive, a distance correctly guessed by David Telfer in the Drive-in sweep, which raised money for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance the newly appointed Club Charities.
Kevin Hawkins was proceeded by 2025 Ladies' Captain Liz Fullbrook, newly appointed Seniors Captain Bob Borzych and 2025 Junior Captain, Charlie Porter.
